Issues related to the diversification of export markets from Armenia were discussed

The issues related to the diversification of export markets from Armenia were addressed during the meeting of Jose Ignacio Pradas-Poveda, EU high-ranking advisor of the “Support to the Monitoring, Implementation and Communication of the Comprehensive and Extended Partnership Agreement” project, and Edgar Hovhannisyan, an economic expert of the EBRD, at the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia. Nerses Karamanukyan, the first vice-president of the UMBA, presented the challenges faced by Armenian businessmen on the way to entering new regions of consumption alongside traditional markets, including the European Union.

There are problems of logistics, of ensuring the necessary quality and quantities, of certification and necessary documentation, of business culture, and other problems, the regulation of which requires considerable effort and time.

The necessity of having a general strategy for export diversification, the active participation of business circles in its formation, the formation of sectoral clusters, and the strengthening of the exporters’ marketing and other professional capacities were emphasized on both sides. The need to establish special regimes for exports from Armenia, particularly to EU markets, and the implementation of other support programs was emphasized.

He first vice-president of the UMBA also referred to the main directions of the Union’s activities, in particular presenting in detail the implemented and ongoing programs with international partners, including within the EU framework.

The latest cooperation started between the UMBA and the Confederation of Danish Industry was presented, within the framework of which mutual familiarization visits of the delegations of the two structures were organized, agreements for further cooperation were reached.

Referring to the activity within the framework of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, Nerses Karamanukyan informed that UMBA assumed the chairmanship of the Economic Council of the organization from July 1 of this year.

During the meeting, the parties also addressed macroeconomic stability, favorable conditions for entrepreneurship and business investments, the importance of introducing innovative technologies and other issues. The importance of cooperation between international structures, state bodies and the private sector was highlighted.
