The risks and possibilities of the institution of criminal liability of legal entities were discussed

The scientific- practical conference, entitled ” Risks and possibilities of the institution of criminal liability of legal entities”was organized by the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia and the law firm “Gazinyan and Partners” took place on March 10, at “Elite Plaza” business center in Yerevan.

“Our observations have shown that many businessmen and lawyers do not have a deep understanding of the regulations on the criminal liability of legal entities that came into force on January 1 of this year, they are not informed of the possible legal consequences, as well as the necessary steps to be taken to avoid them,” stated Arsen Ghazaryan, the President of the UMBA in his speech.

According to him, with the new regulations, the level of responsibility of legal entities has been increased, becoming criminal.The latter will force businessmen to be more alert, to demonstrate management and activity behavior consistent with the new standards.

The speakers of the conference, the managing partner-director of “Ghazinyan and Partners” law firm, candidate of legal sciences Artur Ghazinyan, Head of the Policy Development Department of Criminal Legislation, Penitentiary and Probation of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Gagik Abelyan, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor Anna Margaryan, former prosecutor of the city of Yerevan, lawyer Raffi Aslanyan and the director of the law firm “DIMENSION LEGAL RVC”, Davit Hakobyan referred to the general conditions of criminal liability of legal entities, the bases, and the means of criminal legal intervention. The proceedings regarding the legal entity were presented, as well as the “Compliance programs” as a basis for the exclusion of criminal liability of the legal entity and a toolkit for investment attraction.

During Q&A the speakers answered many questions from the audience.
