UMBA will chair the Eurasian Economic Union’s Business Council in 2024

The Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia will chair the Business Council of the Eurasian Economic Union in 2024.

The work plan of the presidency of the Business Council for 2024 has already been developed and approved.

It was presented by Eduard Kirakosyan, Executive Director of the Union, to the participants of the extended session of the UMBA held on February 8.

At the reporting session, the results of UMBA 2023 activity were summarized, the 2024 work program was approved.

Considering the development of partnership with RA authorities (National Assembly, Government, Ministries) as one of its main functions, the Union continued the practice of constructive dialogue.

As before, in 2023, one of the most important tasks of the UMBA was the development of activities in the direction of the EAEU.

New EAEU sectoral commissions and working groups were created in 2023, UMBA member businessmen were also included in their composition.

Active cooperation and interactions were implemented with other international partners: organization of joint exhibitions, mutual familiarization visits, business meetings, development of cooperation programs.

According to the presentation of the speaker, it often happened when non-governmental organizations consolidate their efforts, presente a united front, making the public voice more resounding to overcome many urgent problems. For this purpose, a unified platform of public structures representing the interests of business was established at the initiative of the Union.

Significant work has been done by the business community in the direction of providing support to compatriots forcibly displaced from Artsakh. Many businessmen took an active part in providing our compatriots with housing, food, basic necessities, and jobs.

Eduard Kirakosyan touched upon other areas of UMBA activity as well, the 2024 budget of the Union was approved.

In the agenda of the session was the issue of “Approaches of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia regarding state procurement procedures”. The President of the UMBA, Arsen Ghazaryan, noted that there are uncertainties in the field of public procurement, there are provisions, which need clarification in the procedures for setting standards and holding tenders.

As a result of the discussions, it was decided to form an expert working group to bring together the existing problems and proposals and present them to the respective marines.
