
YERVANT ZORIAN AWARDED THE UMBA GOLD MEDAL
A ceremonial event dedicated to the 70th birthday of Dr. Professor Yervant Zorian was held on June 5 in the hall of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU).
As a specialist in computer engineering and microelectronics, Yervant Zorian has built a distinguished career in both professional and public service. He is the founding president of the Armenian Virtual University, a chief scientist and chief architect at Synopsys, and the president of Synopsys Armenia. He is also a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, a member of the Armenian Council for Science and Technology Development, Vice President of the Central Board of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), founding president of the AGBU Silicon Valley Chapter, chairman of the Program Committee of the ArmTech Congress, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the HyeConnect Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Armenia (AUA), and an associate professor at the University of British Columbia.
Speakers, including colleagues, associates, and close friends, highlighted Yervant Zorian’s significant contributions to the development of the information technology sector, the implementation of scientific and educational programs, the preservation of Armenian identity, and the strengthening of Armenia–Diaspora relations.
Congratulating the jubilarian, Nerses Karamanukyan, Vice President of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia emphasized Zorian’s role in expanding Armenia’s information technology sector and underscored the importance of diaspora Armenian entrepreneurs’ participation in projects implemented in the homeland, as well as the integration of their business expertise.
In recognition of his significant contribution to the development of Armenia’s information technology, scientific, and educational sectors, his fruitful public service, and on the occasion of his 70th birthday, Yervant Zorian was awarded a Certificate of Honor and the Gold Medal of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia.
