The Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia yesterday hosted Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovenia to Armenia Tomaz Mencin, who also manages his country’s diplomatic representations in Ukraine and Georgia (seat in Kyiv). Mencin was accompanied by Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Armenia Ruben Astvatsatryan.

Vice-President of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen Nerses Karamanukyan presented the Union’s structure and activities, touched upon the sectors of Armenian economy that are interesting in terms of foreign investments and exports and stated that the fields of agro-processing, pharmaceutics, information technologies, tourism and mining may become prospective for cooperation.

The Ambassador said the economic relations between Armenia and Slovenia are not adequate to the existing potential, adding that it is necessary to intensify the direct ties of business circles and that popular diplomacy can also play a major role. According to the Ambassador, Slovenia, which is one of the relatively new members of the European Union, may share its experience in integration with the Armenian side and contribute to the deepening of economic cooperation.

In his turn, the Armenian Honorary Consul mentioned the directions for possible cooperation and labeled them as prospective, placing emphasis on the sectors of healthcare, engineering technologies, agriculture and tourism.
